רבי חנניא בן עקשיא אומר, רצה הקדוש ברוך הוא לזכות את ישראל, לפיכך הרבה להם תורה ומצות, שנאמר יהוה חפץ למען צדקו יגדיל תורה ויאדיר.
(Makkot 3:16) Rabbi Chananya ben Akashia dit: Le Saint, Béni soit-Il, voulait donner du mérite à Israël; c'est pourquoi il a multiplié pour eux la Torah et les commandements, comme il est écrit: «Le Seigneur a voulu, à cause de sa justice, rendre la Torah grande et glorieuse» (Ésaïe 42:21).

Shimon, his son, used to say: all my days I grew up among the sages, and I have found nothing better for a person than silence. Study is not the most important thing, but actions; whoever indulges in too many words brings about sin.
